about
Two best friends who love making & playing music
JAMES
James Edwards is one half of GROOVIA, shaping the project’s sound through creative direction, songwriting, and detailed production. Originally from the UK and now based in Brisbane, his move to Australia in 2007 expanded his perspective early on, influencing the way he approaches culture, atmosphere, and connection.
With a background in cinematography and storytelling, James brings a narrative mindset into the studio. He is deeply involved in the technical construction of each record, from arrangement and sound design to dynamics and final detail. For him, emotion and precision are inseparable. Every lift, drop, transition, and texture is considered not just for impact, but for how it makes people feel.
His instinct for reading a room informs the way he builds music. Energy is never accidental. It is designed. Structured. Refined.
Within GROOVIA, James balances emotional depth with technical intention, ensuring each release carries both movement and meaning.
toby
Tobias Edmanson is one half of GROOVIA, grounding the project with a rhythm-first and minimalist approach to sound. His taste has been shaped by a lifetime of wide musical influence, from rhythm-driven hip-hop and reggae foundations to deep, melodic and groove-led electronic music. Early exposure to genre-blending artists cultivated a focus on emotion and storytelling over strict category.
Tobias blends organic textures, punchy low-end energy and melodic restraint into sets that feel immersive yet controlled. His approach is built on tension and release, allowing space for the listener to breathe before delivering moments of impact. Subtle shifts in groove and progression are where his strength lies.
As a producer, he focuses on longevity. Records designed to move beyond trends and hold weight over time. Drawing from global influences and underground sensibilities, his sound sits between atmosphere and dancefloor precision.
Within GROOVIA, Tobias shapes the foundation. Refined, measured, and deeply connected to rhythm.
